Does Step Up Academy Herald The End of Racialization in American Schools?

In early summer, 2022, “Step Up Academy” was launched to test whether identities could be formed and celebrated by African American and Latina trainers of teachers based on ethnicity rather than race. Twenty such teacher trainers were asked to tell stories in small groups about their family’s ethnic history and values.

Superintendent’s African American Success Advisory Committee

As defined in the 3-Year BUSD African American Success Framework adopted by the BUSD Board of Education on June 29, 2022, the purpose of the Superintendent’s African American Success Advisory Committee is to: · Review, monitor, and evaluate the district’s implementation of the African American Success Framework and consider other possible strategic areas as appropriate. · Advise the Board and Superintendent and relevant District Department designee(s) regarding accountability of services, programs, policies and resources that directly impact the district/school culture and climate of our classrooms and the academic, social/emotional and personal outcomes for all Black/African American students.

Join the African American Regional Educational Alliances (AAREA) on June 9th as we mark the historic 20th Anniversary of an uplifting, time-honored ceremony in the Greater Bay Area: the Annual African American Student Achievement and Excellence Awards. To mark two decades of student brilliance, we gather together as a community to celebrate the Homecoming reunion of Awardees from far and wide, uniting two decades of Black Excellence in one massive, triumphant event out scaling each ceremony to come before.

Black to School 2022 Highlights

On September 17, 2022, BUSD and the African American Success Framework (AASF) partners held Black-To-School, a special event for students in grades 3-8. Students and parents enjoyed fun activities and workshop at the event.

Step Up! Academy – Summer 2022

The Summer 2022 Step Up Academy took place from June 16 through July 15, 2022. It served approximately 100 students in grades 3-8 across the district.
